State Level Youth Festival begins at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex

IMPHAL, Dec 2 : The 24th edition of State Level Youth Festival-2019 was inaugurated today at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex's Auditorium  in the presence of Laitonjam Muhindro, Deputy Director Training and Coaching, Youth Affairs and Sports Department as chief guest .
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Director stressed on the importance of youth  and maintained that they should play a pro active role in upholding and retaining cultural identity. He also continued that they should actively participate in preserving the cultural identity and engage in spreading the feeling of oneness to ensure a harmonious society.
The presidium members present during the inaugural function also noted the role of youths in National building process and contended that the country can only be progressed when the youths, which accounts more than 34.80 percent of the total population of the country, have a firm stand and determination.
They also highlighted the evolution of Youth Festival from " Folk Festival". It was in the year 1995 that Folk Festival was renamed to National Youth Day and Week by the then Prime Minister as an acknowledgement to the roles played by youths and celebrated from January 12 to 17 in line with the birth anniversary celebration of Swami Vivekananda. And with due course of time the festival takes the shape of "Youth Festival" which is celebrated at both the State and National Level with volunteers taking part in many cultural and entertainment items.
The State level Youth festival will see more than 300 volunteers from across 16 districts participate in many competitions including extempore speech, guitar competitions, table (classical), harmonium (lite), sitar (classical), one act play, flute, classical vocal solo (Hindustani), classical Manipur dance, folk song and dance.
The main focus of the festival organised by State YAS Department is "National Integration" and its theme is " Peace and Harmony". It will continue till 4 of this month .
