IMPHAL, Dec 7: Endorsing the 11 hours bandh called by the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) all over the North East region on December 10 in protest against the Central Govern-ment's vigorous push to pass the Citizenship   Amendment Bill (CAB), AMSU has called a 15 hours general strike all over the State with effect from 3 am of December 10 till 6 pm of the same day.
Speaking to media persons at their office located within DM University campus this afternoon, AMSU president in-charge Lai-shram Athouba said that AMSU, being a member organisation of NESO, would support any movement launched by NESO against CAB.
Notably, an emergency meeting of NESO was held  yesterday at Guwahati on the contentious CAB and the meeting resolved to call  an 11 hour bandh in the entire North East region on December 10 against the Bill.
Athouba, however, said that observation of the International Human Rights Day would be exempted from the purview of the general strike.
Likewise, religious functions, power, medical, media and other essential services would not be covered by the general strike, he said.
As for the semester examinations scheduled on December 10, the AMSU president in-charge appealed to both MU and DMU authorities to reschedule the same exams on another date.
He then appealed to all sections of people to support the general strike of December 10 and stage protest demonstrations against CAB.
AMSU has no intention to call bandhs but it is of the firm belief that the NESO’s position on CAB deserves full support in the interest of all the indigenous peoples of the North East including Manipur, Athouba said.
