Manipedicon 2019 held

IMPHAL, Dec 8: The XXIII Manipedicon 2019 under the theme 'Prevention of Childhood Obesity: Way Forward' was held at IMA conference hall Lamphelpat today.
The event organised by Pediatric Association of Manipur (PAM) was attended by Manipur Tourism Development Corporation Chairman Dr Sapam Ranjan, PAM president Dr Kh Ratankumar Singh, Manipur Legislative Assembly former Speaker Dr Maniruddin Sheikh, PAM former president Professor Kh Ibochouba Singh as presidium members.
Speaking at the event, Dr Sapam Ranjan said that many changes have been brought by development in technology which have effects on lifestyle of people.
"Mobile phones have become part of life for youth and children which are having a tool on their lifestyle due to lack of physical exercises. Moreover, the choice of food are affecting our physical state leading to obesity," he said.
"When technology has its merits, it also comes with a price. Too much dependent on technological aids reduces human effort. Due to rapid replacement of human labour by machinery, people have become dull and this is affecting our lifestyle and health, he added.
"We need technology, smart phones and other gadgets but we have to strike a balance and derive positive outcomes," he said pointing out the need for physical exercise and consuming healthy food for health.
He also dwelt on the role of parents and doctors in maintaining children's health.
