IMPHAL, Dec 8: Women vendors of Temporary Market Shed No 4 Ima Panthoibi Sana Keithel Lup and the shopkeepers of the surrounding areas ceased work today and began a protest condemning the attempt by the Central Government to pass the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest, the general secretary of Ima Panthoibi Sana Keithel Lup, Khomdram Joymati demanded the Central Government not to forcefully pass the CAB despite strong opposition from the people of the North East region, including Manipur.
She continued that the women vendors will stay overnight at the temporary market shed and continue their protest until and unless the Centre heeds the sentiment of the people.
Stating that the women vendors will also submit memos to the Governor and the Chief Minister, she opined that if CAB is passed, then the indigenous people in the North East region will be wiped out.
