Sport fishing centres inaugurated

With the aim to produce quality local fishes in plenty in Manipur, a mass enrolment programme was organised and two sport fishing centres were inaugurated by K Nabachandra Singh, Board of Director, National Federation of Fishers Cooperatives Limited, New Delhi today.
The two sport fishing centres were inaugurated at Phoubakchao Pisciculture Farming Cooperative Society Limited, Phoubakchao Awang Leikai, Imphal West and Leishangthem Khongmanung Makha Leikai Fishery Cooperative Society Ltd, Leishangthem, Thoubal, said a statement of Allied Fishery Co-operative Society Ltd.
A Tiken Singh, I Liston Kumar Singh, president, Allied Fishery Cooperative Society Ltd, L Herachndra Singh, secretary, Leishangthem Fishery Cooperative Society Ltd and other officials from different fisheries cooperative societies limited attended the event.
The office of the Allied Fishery Cooperative Society Ltd (AFCS), Imphal East was also inaugurated at Soibam Leikai, Wangkhei Khunou, Imphal East near Citizen Club in the presence of Th Sharatchandra Singh, philanthropist, L Badalkumar Singh, Director, Audit Fund, Government of Manipur and other officials of the society, said the statement.
K Nabachandra Singh, Board of Director, National Federation of Fishers Cooperatives Limited, New Delhi also attended the event as chief guest.
He appealed fishermen to enrol themselves under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana insurance scheme to get financial assistance upto Rs 2 lakh. The fish farmers will not pay the premium. The entire premium will be borne by the State and Central Government, he said. The newly opened sport fishing centres will attract more angling events and promote fishery tourism, he added.
Th Sharatchandra Singh said that the centres will help achieve the target set by the State Government for producing more fishes, the statement of the society added.
