Twin trees planted to continue legacy of Khongnang Ani Karak

IMPHAL, May 9 : With the intention to do justice to the name, Khongnang Ani Karak, after the felling down of the two ancient peepal trees, titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba, priest and priestess of Uttra Shanglen and officials of PWD planted two new peepal trees along with religious rituals today.
Speaking to media persons, Leishemba Sanajaoba remarked that the two ancient peepal trees were rooted out in the name of renovating the traffic island in Chingmeirong as the traffic volume has increased hundredfold in the State.
He went on to state that when Sana Konung was apprehensive about losing the very name of Khongnag Ani Karak as the ancient trees had already fallen, the Chief Minister approached with the intention to plant new peepal trees as a substitute to the old age fallen trees of Khongnang Ani Karak.
Following this approach, officials of the department concerned along with priest and priestess of Sana Konung Uttra Shanglen decided on an auspicious day to carry out necessary rituals and plant two new peepal trees.
Leishemba said the objective of planting new saplings is  to revive and safeguard the name which has a deep rooted relation with the religion and history of the State.
As the trees were planted, he said, prayers were also offered to Ibudhou Pakhangba, Ibudhou Marjing, Chingu Lai, Khoiyum Lai for a healthy and a prosperous State.
When the time comes, the trees planted today will grow and spread its branches and the younger generations and the generations to come will once gain continue to tell the story of Khongnang Ani Karak.
PWD Superintending Engineer (National Highways) Y Joykumar said that earlier, there was free traffic movement in and around Khongnang Ani Karak but owing to the increase in traffic movement over the past many years, steps were taken up to install a signalised control traffic intersection.
The decision to plant new trees, under the direction of the Chief Minister and concerned Minister, was also taken up as the people has a close knit relation with the particular place and to safeguard it for future generation.
