IMPHAL, May 10: The JAC formed in connection with the murder of Kh Arun of Bamon Kampu Maning Leikai, organised a public meeting at Bamon Kampu today to deal with the rising rate of crime in the State.
Leaders and representatives of various CSOs like UCM, AMUCO, CCSK, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur, Women Action Development (WAD) as well as Acting Chairman of Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) Khaidem Mani were present at the meeting.
Numerous resolutions were adopted during the meeting including swift submission of charge sheet against the culprits involved in the murder and to award appropriate punishment against the involved individuals.
Speaking at the event UCM president Sunil Karam said that it is extremely disappointing to come across such crimes committed by women at a time when the State is being ravaged by crimes committed by men against women.
He then reasoned that the inability of the police to properly investigate the matter even though many evidences were seized or collected, indicate that the police have completely failed.
He also appealed to the people to stand united and to refrain from letting the issue take a political turn.
AMUCO vice president Nando Luwang said that till date, the police has not made any statement to the public regarding the case and urged the police not to muddle up the murder case or drag it on any further.
On the other hand Khaidem Mani said that MHRC is a statutory body which has the power to intervene in any incident which affect human rights.
If a complaint is lodged to MHRC regarding the murder case,  the body can even direct the police and the authority concerned to do the needful at the earliest, he added.
