XI M Tomba and Shankar Memorial TT C'shipY Subhaschandra to clash with N Biren for 40+ men's singles title, Ng Brajakumar-H Rajendra claim 60+ doubles title

IMPHAL, May 11 : Y Subhaschandra will take on N Biren for the 40+ men's singles title at the XI Mutum Tomba and Mutum Shankar Memorial Table Tennis Championship which began yesterday at Indoor Stadium, DM College Campus, Imphal West under the aegis of Manipur Veteran Table Tennis Association.
Y Subhaschandra overcame W Sanjeet 9-11, 9-11, 11-3, 11-4, 11-4 today in the first semi-final of the men's 40+ singles competition while N Biren outlasted M Iboton with an easy 11-5, 11-8, 11-8 win to set the stage for final.
M Iboton however claimed the third place title with a convincing 11-0, 11-0, 11-0 win against W Sanjeet.
Y Subashchandra reached the semi-final with a straight sets victory (12-10, 11-4, 11-4) against Dr H Nirendra Kumar while N Biren carved out a 7-11, 11-5, 6-11, 11-4, 11-1 win against M Shubhakanta to complete the semi-final line up.
In other quarter final matches, M Iboton beat N Rajesh by 3-1 sets while W Sanjeet managed a similar win against Ch Marjit.
Men's Singles 50+
The final line up of the above 50 years men's singles competition also completed today. S Chandra who edged out M Noren 5-11, 11-5, 11-3, 13-11 in the first semi-final will meet Th Rajendro who clinched a straight sets win (11-7, 11-6, 11-8) against Ch Loken Meitei, in the final tomorrow.
Ch Loken however claimed the third place title securing a 11-0, 11-0, 11-0 win over M Noren today.
S Chandra romped past O Brojendro 11-3, 11-2, 11-4 to seal his place in the semi-final while Th Rajendra sealed a 3-1 sets win (7-11, 11-6, 11-9, 13-11) against Radhakrishnan Ch in another quarter final clash.
M Noren reached the semi-final with a straight sets win against Ibochouba Sapam while Ch Loken outlasted Dev Akoijam in the same fashion.
Other singles events
Ch Biren claimed the above 60 years men's singles title at the tournament beating H Brajamani in the final while L Mohindro finished third in this age category. K Kumar was also able to clinched the third place title in the above 65 years men's singles event. Women's singles open title went to S Ashalata who beat N Sushila in the final while K Ibeyaima finished third in this event.
Men's doubles 40+
Y Subashchandra is also contending for the above 40 years doubles title with his partner M Shubhakanta as they earned the final berth with a convincing 11-6, 11-9, 11-8 win against Binod M and Kh Pramesh in the first semi-final clash today.
They will meet the pair of Ch Marjit and N Biren who outlasted W Sanjeet and N Rajesh pair by 3-1 sets (7-11, 11-6, 11-8,, 11-4) in another semi-final clash.
W Sanjeet and N Rajesh were able to make up their semi-final defeat by clinching third place title after a hard fought 11-6, 12-10, 7-11, 9-11, 11-0 win against Binod M and Kh Pramesh.
In the quarter finals, Y Subashchandra and M Shubhakanta beat H Somorjit and Anil pair 11-2, 11-4, 11-5; Binod M and Kh Pramesh outlasted H Nirendra Kumar and M Iboton 8-11, 11-3, 11-9,11-6; W Sanjeet and N Rajesh overwhelmed A Ingochouba and Th Dijen 11-6, 11-3, 11-8 and Ch Marjit and N Biren saw off L Upendro and W Subhas 11-2, 11-5, 11-5.
Men's Doubles 60+
Ng Brajakumar and H Rajendra emerged the champions of Men's doubles title for above 60 years category after the duo pulled off a 11-8, 6-11, 6-11, 12-10, 11-6 win against K Kumar and G Prafulla pair in the final today. K Kumar and Prafulla entered the final with a 11-3, 11-3, 11-6 win against H Brajamani and L Mohindro pair while Ng Brajakumar and H Rajendra outlasted Ch Biren and L Gandhi 8-11, 12-10, 11-9, 11-8 to complete the final line up.
Men's Doubles 50+
M Noren and S Chandra will be meeting T Nirmal and Th Rajendro pair in the final match of the men's doubles for above 50 years category tomorrow.
M Noren and Chandra booked the final berth of the competition with a 11-8, 11-4, 11-7 win against Kh Rajendro and Ch Loken Meitei while T Nirmal and Th Rajendro overcame Ibochouba Sapam and Radhakrishnan Ch 11-6, 9-11, 11-7, 11-9 in another semi-final clash.
The third place title of the same competition went to Kh Rajendro and Ch Loken Meitei pair who clinched a 15-13, 12-10, 12-10 win against Ibochouba Sapam and Radhakrishnan Ch today.
Mix Doubles
S Ashalata and Dr M Shubhakanta were able to win the mix doubles title beating W Premila and M Iboton 11-3, 11-7, 11-6 in the final staged today.
S Ashalata and Dr M Shubhakanta reached the final with a 7-11, 11-1, 12-10, 11-9 win against N Sushila and S Chandra in the first semi-final while W Premila and M Iboton saw off K Ibeyaima and N Rajesh 4-11, 11-6, 12-14, 11-4, 11-6 in another semi-final match.
N Sushila and S Chandra however redeemed themselves claiming the third place title with a 11-7, 14-12, 11-6 win against K Ibeyaima and N Rajesh.
