Postponement of MCSCCE (Prelim)Aspirants decry, demand compensation

IMPHAL, May 11: Decrying that the repeated postponement of Manipur Civil Services Combined Competitive (Preliminary) Examination, MCSCCE (Prelim) 2019 is due to incompetency of Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC), aspiring candidates who stay outside the State have asked the MPSC to compensate the expenditure they have incurred in coming to Imphal to appear for the exam.
Addressing a press meet held today at Manipur Press Club, S Ratnamani who represented a group of aspirants said that they welcome the Manipur High Court’s order to postpone the exam indefinitely.
He further alleged that repeated postponement of civil services examinations conducted by MPSC is due to non-compliance with the High Court’s directives.
Asking why the MPSC fixed the MCSCCE (Prelim) 2019 on May 12 despite having many loopholes and flaws, Ratnamani said that the MPSC’s act of fixing the exam date without fulfilling the Court’s directive amounted to contempt of Court.
While stating that the sudden postponement of civil services examinations conducted by MPSC has been causing extreme hardship to the aspiring candidates and students who stay outside the State, specially those who belong to poor families, he pointed out that candidates spend at least Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 while coming to the State and they are now compelled to go back without appearing the said examination.
MPSC need to take into account the inconveniences faced by the candidates when examinations are postponed and should try to rectify their mistakes in the future, he added. He also said that a PIL will be filed in this regard.
Notably, the High Court of Manipur, in its judgment passed on May 10, directed the respondents (MPSC and two others) to file affidavits as well as take appropriate instructions on or before May 15.
Subsequently, MPSC postponed the MCSCCE (Prelim) 2019 following the Court’s judgment.
