Bikers knock down pedestrian at Spt

Senapati, May 11: In what could be termed as rash and negligent driving, an old age pedestrian was knocked down by bikers who succumbed to injuries later at Senapati on May 9 (Thursday), reports our correspondent.
The unfortunate incident happened when some Royal Enfield riders, numbering about 5 in total, who were reportedly coming from Dimapur towards Imphal knocked down one pedestrian at a place below Old District Hospital, Senapati around 5.30 to 6 pm on May 9, it added.
According to eye witnesses, they saw the bikers knocked down the old man and ran away from the scene. They chased them down and caught near Old MR, near Satyam Industry. Some of the bikers were reportedly escaped and went ahead, following which they called up the Kangpokpi Police Station to round up the group.
Later, 7 of them were brought to Senapati Police Station for necessary action to be taken under the law of the land, they informed.
The victim was identified as one Kaikho (56) s/o (L) Sou of Tobufii village who was badly hurt in the accident where the doctors from District Hospital, Senapati referred him to Imphal for further treatment but succumbed to the injuries at around midnight. Post mortem was reportedly done in the evening yesterday.
According to our correspondent, the team of bikers were identified as one Longjam Borish (19) s/o L Brojen Singh of Yairipok Kekru; Naorem Boycha Singh (19) s/o N Khogen of Thoubal Bazaar Makha; Sagolsem Rakesh Singh (20) s/o Sh Rajen Singh of Wangjing Tekcham Leikei; Waikhom Bushan Singh (19) s/o W Premjit Singh of Thoubal Achonba Pakhang Khong Leirak; Athokpam Mahesh Singh (19) s/o A Ibomcha Singh of Athokpam Mayai Leikai; Sanabam Malemnganba Singh (20) s/o S Yaiskul Singh of Yairipok Khoirom Mayai Leikai and Kharibam Deepak Singh (19) s/o Kh Sharat Singh of Khongjom, Opposite Khongjom PS.
A case has been registered in connection with the incident at District Police Station.
Meanwhile, a large numbers of people reportedly gathered at the District Police Station and demanded to hand over the accused persons and their bikes but the situation was controlled by the District Police.
Later, the accused families together with the Mao Union residing at the DHQs reportedly settled the matter amicably at the Police Station.
With the NH-2 being black topped in and around the District headquarters, Senapati, speeding vehicles including two wheelers, light vehicles and even heavy vehicles will keep coming in the town which required immediate attention from the concerned authority before any other accident occur in the area.
