IMPHAL, May 12: Cyber Crime Unit Imphal West arrested one Oinam Robinchandra (49) today, after a case was filed by a woman before Bishnupur women PS, on April 11 for allegedly sexually assaulting her younger sister.
It is worth noting that the accused Oinam Robinchandra (49) s/o (L) Chandramohan of Tokpa Ching Mayai Leikai, Thoubal District, is currently out on bail in connection with the ongoing POCSO trial (at Session Court Thoubal) of another sexual assault case of a minor in April 2016.
According to a reliable source, the elder sister of a victim lodged a complaint to Bishnupur women PS alleging that her sister had been sexually assaulted by a person who identified himself as one Debajit, at a restaurant located at Utlou on April 11 and the matter came to light after the accused sent pictures of the victim through WhatsApp.
The elder sister further claimed that upon enquiry, the victim revealed that she became acquainted with the accused through Facebook and they began exchanging mobile numbers and talking on the phone and on WhatsApp.
After about a week of getting to know each other, the accused took the victim inside a restaurant located at Utlou and raped her after threatening her with dire consequences.
After a registering a case, Bishnupur women PS  sent a requisition to Cyber Crime Unit Imphal West for establishing the identity of the accused and to help in arresting him.
Cyber Crime unit Imphal West established the identity of the accused as one Oinam Rabichandra (49) s/o (L) Chandramohan of Tokpa Ching Mayai Leikai, Thoubal district and as such, he was arrested today at around 10 am from Uripok Bachaspati Leikai.
The police also seized a mobile phone which was used by the accused in the crime.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused revealed that he used two Facebook accounts from his phone.
He was handed over to the Bishnupur women PS along with the seized items, for further necessary action.
