International Nurses Day observed

IMPHAL, May 12: Nurses team of Imphal Hospital & Research Centre on Sunday celebrated International Nurses Day at the hospital's auditorium.
The observance under the theme "Nurses - A voice to lead health for all" witnessed floral tributes to photo of Florence Nightingale.
Florence Nightingale was social reformer and statistician, and the founder of modern nursing. Nightingale came to prominence while serving as a manager and trainer of nurses during the Crimean War, in which she organised care for wounded soldiers. She gained the nickname "The Lady With the Lamp" for her service.
As a part of the event, 'sincere and punctual' nurses of the hospital were honoured for their services.
Senior staff nurse A Tejbala Devi was awarded Best Nurses Award while staff nurses Ph Nirmala Devi and Bidyapati Devi were awarded Appreciation Award.
Another Best Nurse Award, dedicated by Nursing Superintendent P Maipakpi Devi in the name of her late mother P Ongbi Ibeton Devi, was awarded to staff nurse Jinetlini Devi.
Speaking at the event as chief guest, Imphal Hospital MD Salam Maipak Singh pointed out the importance and significance of the nurses in healthcare sector. He encouraged the nurses to serve patients like their family. He identified nurse as most noble among all the professions.
Florence Nightingale was born on 12 May 1820 into a  British family at the Villa Colombaia, in Florence, Tuscany, Italy, and was named after the city of her birth. International Nurses Day is observed every year to commemorate her, said Maipak.
Nursing Superintendent of Imphal Hospital and Research centre P Maipakpi Devi pointed out that nurses should not only tend the wounds but also give mental and spiritual strength to the patients. People/patients should extend co-operation to the nurses for more better service and care, she said encouraging the nurses to feel proud of the noble profession.
