5th VSO TrophyMeira FC, Endeavour FC ease into quarter final stage

IMPHAL, May 13 : Meira FC edged out Tolhei FC by 3-1 goals while Endeavour FC, Wangjing held off SLYO 5-2 to cruise into the last 8 round of the 5th VSO Trophy Cash Prize Soccer Tournament being organised by Khongjom Circle Veteran Sports Organisation,  today at Tekcham HS Ground.
In the second pre-quarter final clash of the tournament, Meira FC rode on goals by Patrick, Johnson and Yaima to see off Tolhei FC which managed a goal through Gobindas.
Patrick drew first blood in the 11th minute of the match while Johnson doubled Meira's advantage in the 19th minute of the match. Tolhei FC however pulled back a goal in the 21st minute to reduce the gap but Meira FC added yet another goal in the 24th minute to extend the margin and solidified their lead.
Tolhei FC tried hard to exert more pressure in the latter part aiming to reduce the deficit but their effort failed to alter the result as Meira FC stonewalled the incomings for a clinical 3-1 finish.
Elsewhere, Premjit hit a brace to help Endeavour FC romp past SLYO 5-2 in a high scoring pre-quarter final encounter.
Premjit found the opener in the 10th minute of the match before striking his second in the 21st minute to give his team a bright start.
Endeavour FC continued to press their rivals hard despite the huge lead and it was in the 37th minute that Kishan banged in the third goal.
SLYO who were reeling under huge pressure got a bit of relief as S Tomba pulled back a goal in the 39th minute but their condition did not improve as Suraj of Endeavour FC fired in the team fourth in the 43rd minute to retain three goal cushion. Barlin grabbed another goal for SLYO in the 45th minute but was of no use as Nongpoknganba of Endeavour FC rounded off the scoring to make it 5-2 at the end.
