Hearing begins

IMPHAL, May 13: The argument hearing of the murder case of a JRF student of RIMS began today before the Court of Session Judge Imphal East, after the Court registered the case on April 24 on receiving the case record from Additional Session Judge, Manipur East.
During the hearing, the accused persons, Kshetrimayum Biju alias Holendro s/o Ibungo of Irilbung Thongkhong, Thoudam Jiban s/o (L) Thoiba of Irilbung Machahal Leikai and Toijam Thesis alias Aboi alias James s/o T Jugindro of Thambalkhong Sabal Leikai , who are presently in judicial custody at Sajiwa Central Jail, were produced before the Court.
Mention may be made that the case was transferred from Session Court Imphal East to the Additional Session Judge Manipur East, following the final hearing of the case a few months back.
It may also be mentioned that the JRF student of Pathology Department, RIMS, was found brutally murdered with bruise marks on her neck and body, in a canal at Wangkhei Loumanbi Loukol, under Irilbung PS, on April 5, 2013, just a couple of days after she left her residence at Kakwa.
The three accused were arrested a few days after the incident, by the Special Investigation Team( SIT) which was constituted to solve the case and arrest the culprits involved in the murder.
Charge was framed against the accused on September 20, 2013 and the first prosecution witnesses of the trial gave their statement before the Court on December 5, 2013.
After a five year long hearing, the Court recorded the statement of the last prosecution witness on September 1, 2017. After the hearing today, the Court fixed 2 pm tomorrow for further hearing of the submission.
The Court also ordered that the argument hearing of the trial will be held on a day by day basis.
