Alert sounded over ‘gift’

MOREH, May 13: A masked man gifted a potential explosive to one Nengkhoneng Munlun (60) of Moreh Ward No 7 at around 8.30 am today. 
The masked man brought something wrapped in a black polythene bag inside Nengkhoneng’s house and left the place saying he would come back soon to claim his article.
As the article looked suspicious, Nengkhoneng informed Moreh police station at around 10 am.
When a team of Moreh police led by OC Letkhohao Vaiphei unwrapped the article, it turned out to be a potential explosive manufactured by the Uranium Cooperation of India.
Soon the potential explosive was taken to a vacant place and the area is being guarded by police and Assam Rifles.
Even as bomb experts of Assam Rifles came and examined the object, they could not identify it exactly. As such, experts from Imphal are being awaited who are expected to reach the spot tomorrow.  
Meanwhile, it is reported that the State Government has directed Tengnoupal SP to keep the object in their safe custody. Moreover, the State Government has asked the Uranium Corporation of India, Shillong to send a team and help identify the object or whether it is radioactive or not.
