IMPHAL, May 14: The family members and the JAC formed in connection with the brutal murder case of Khunjamayum Arun Meetei, have decided to claim the dead body of the victim, after SP Imphal East gave them proper assurance that a charge sheet would be filed against the wife of the victim and her paramour, before May 18.
The dead body of Arun was taken to his native residence for performing its last rites from JNIMS morgue, by a large number of JAC and family members today afternoon, after it remained unclaimed for 22 days. 
According to the secretary of the JAC, Than- gshabam Rajeeb, the JAC and family members decided to claim the body today after the SP of Imphal East district told them it has been well established that the brutal murder was carried out by the victim's wife Khunjamayum (o) Helen alias Thoi and her paramour Naosekpam Rabi (28) s/o (L) Nimai of Bamon Kampu Khabam (Pradhan of Bamon Kampu Gram Panchayat) and a charge sheet would be submitted before the Court by May 18 for necessary trial.
He continued that if the authority concerned fails to honour the assurance, then various intensified agitation will be launched.
It may be mentioned that the body of Khunjamayum Arun, was found some half a kilometre away from his residence at Bamon Kampu Makha Leikai Siphai Lou in the morning of April 23.
The JAC and the family members had passed a resolution not to claim the dead body until their demands for arresting the culprits and awarding them befitting punishments, were honoured by the authority.
On May 11, authorities issued a notification that the dead body would be disposed off if not claimed by the family members by 4 pm yesterday.
Eventually a meeting was organised between the JAC, the SP of Imphal East and the local MLA yesterday, which led to the eventual claiming of the dead body.
It may also be mentioned that the wife of the deceased and her paramour are presently lodged in Manipur Central Jail and Sajiwa Central respectively, after they were remanded till May 8 by an order of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East on May 4.
