NCST against CAB

SHILLONG, May 15 : The National Commission for Scheduled Tribe is not in favour of CAB or any Bill that will allow outsiders to acquire citizenship in the North East region.
Chairperson of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribe, Nand Kumar Sai, today said that the Citizenship Amendment Bill  is against the interest of the people of the region.
He said that outsiders coming and acquiring citizenship in the region is detrimental to the indigenous populace residing in the region from time immemorial.
Stating that this should not be allowed to happen, he said that the Commission will not agree to anything that allows outsiders to come and get citizenship in the North East region.
He further said that the Commission will play an important role in ensuring that no outsiders come and acquire the citizenship in the region as well.
The delegation of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribe is led by its chairman, Sai who met Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma in his office today.
