FVWA post second win in 21st Challenge Cup

IMPHAL, May 15 : FVWA, Mapal Kangjeibung registered their second win at the 21st Challenge Cup beating AMBA by 3-0 goals in a Group E league match at XI Star Sporting Union Ground, Akampat today.
First half goals by Paokhosai and Khupreingam ensured FVWA's second win at the tournament after their 4-2 win against AVFA in the previous tie.
Paokhosai put FVWA ahead in the 7th minute of the game while star of the day Khupreingam doubled the team lead in the 22nd minute before slotting home his second goal four minutes latter. FVWA were happy to sit deep back with the huge lead in the second half as AMBA tried hard to reduce the margin with all possible effort but without any positive result.
Meanwhile in another Group E league match staged latter, PUPU, Pungdongbam fought back from one goal down to thump AVFA, Akampat 3-1 and earned their first win after a goalless draw with AMBA in the previous league stage clash.
AVFA found the breakthrough and the team's only goal early in the 5th minute with the help of K Premjit but Th Rohen of PUPU hit the equaliser to put his team back into the game in the 22nd minute. The first half came to an end with the score levelled at 1-1 as the two sides failed to find the lead despite few close calls.
The game however came tilted towards the Pungdongbam side after the restart and it was a Maniram who overturned the lead in the 40th minute. Although AVFA looked positive to draw level, Ng Naoba of PUPU grabbed another goal to extend the lead in the 55th minute and made their rivals' comeback impossible.
