Rotary Club of Polo City Imphal gives awareness on traffic rules

IMPHAL, May 15: Rotary Club of Polo City Imphal, in association with Traffic Control Wing, Imphal West, organised an awareness campaign on traffic rules today at Kangla Western Gate.
Assistant governor zone 9 of Rotary International District 3240 Arunkumar Thangjam, president of Rotary of Polo City Imphal Pradeep Meitram, Dy SP of Imphal West Traffic Control Wing K Bijoykumar, members of the club and  many young Rotaryets participated in the programme.
The campaign participated by over 40 volunteers was organized to spread awareness to the riders about the importance of obeying traffic rules, said president Pradeep Meitram.
He further added that with traffic signals installed in the Imphal city area, there is a high chance of road mishaps and accidents if the riders do not follow traffic signals properly and if timely awareness of the traffic rules is not given.
The campaign began by taking an awareness walk from Kangla Western Gate and culminated at the Governor’s main gate traffic island. Making this traffic island as the main campaign point, young Rotaryets stood around the traffic island carrying placards displaying positive quotes and basic traffic rules.
During the campaign which was supervised by Dy SP Bijoykumar, riders were particularly checked and advised to stop at the stoppage line before the zebra crossing and to keep left free turn opened.
As part of the campaign, many riders who followed traffic rules correctly were appreciated by distributing simple gifts and cards.
With this kind of awareness campaign, it is sure to prevent traffic related accidents to an extent and help reduce inconveniences to the passers-by and fellow riders, said Pradeep. Many children took part in the programme.
