IMPHAL, May 15 : While condemning the recent statement of Chief Biren N Biren Singh that "Regionalism is passe' and it will be extinct in North East India", Manipur People's Party has responded that no amount of force can root out regional political parties from any State as long as there is support from the indigenous people.
The statement of  N Biren clearly revealed the hidden agenda of Bhartiya Janata Party and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to exterminate all the indigenous people of North East States so that people from mainland India can enter and rule the region with liberty, said a statement of  Dr S Ibomcha Singh, vice president, MPP.
Support of regional political parties have played pivotal role in Government formation over the years, including the incumbent Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Dr Ibomcha said and questioned if N Biren had forgotten that the current State Government is also a coalition Government supported by regional parties Naga People's Front (NPF) and National People's Party (NPP).
Stating that neither BJP nor Congress will enjoy absolute majority in the 17th Lok Sabha elections and it is near to impossible to form a Government without getting support from regional parties, Ibomcha hinted at the possibility of forming a third front Government, an alliance formed by all the regional political parties of the country.
During the tenure of MPP in the State, Khongjom Day (April 23) and 13th August were declared State holidays and the then President VV Giri was invited on Khongjom Day to pay respect to the martyrs of Khongjom War, he recalled.
