IMPHAL, May 15: Imphal Hospital and Research Centre, under its corporate responsibility scheme, is treating a BPL patient free of cost, said its managing director Maipak.
Speaking to media persons at the hospital's auditorium today, Maipak said that the Imphal Hospital had earlier treated two patients also under the scheme. The scheme identifies deserving patients who have no income and no source to get healthcare. It is a scheme for those patients who genuinely deserve help, added Maipak.
Thoibi (named changed) of  Churachandpur has been receiving treatment at the hospital from April 8 this year. She is under the care of Senior Gynaecologist Dr C Manglem, Maipak said.
She will undergo rectovaginal fistula surgery later today, the managing director said adding that required doctors and experts are taking all precautions to carry out the operation successfully.
Thoibi had approached a private hospital after she experienced lapse in her menstrual cycle. After treatment and further diagnosis, doctors found her rectum and birth canal connected due to some damages. This led to faeces entering the birth canal instead of reaching the rectum, said Maipak and added that the rectovaginal fistula surgery will reconstruct the original paths.
The operation is scheduled to be conducted late in the evening, said officials.
