Gold bars seized

IMPHAL, May 17: Anti Smuggling Unit Customs Division Imphal, arrested an individual along with 15 gold bars of foreign origin worth Rs 80, 62,620, from Mayang Imphal yesterday night.
According to a reliable source, acting on specific information of gold bars of foreign origin being smuggled along Asian Highway No 1 and other important routes of the State, officers of the Anti Smuggling Unit Customs Division Imphal conducted checks in different locations yesterday.
During a check along Mayai Lambi road, at Mayang Imphal Bazar area last night, the team was able to seize 15 gold bars of foreign origin from of the possession of one Md Ataullah Khan (43) s/o (L) Md Amu of Irong Chesaba Mayai Leikai.
Md Ataullah Khan was travelling in a passenger Taxi (Maruti Van) coming from Moreh towards Imphal and the gold was found concealed in a blue bag wrapped with black adhesive tape, the source added.
The value of the seized gold bars is Rs 80,62,620 and Customs Division Imphal has registered a case against the arrested individual.
