Bishnupur, May 19: With the aim to achieve the goal of clean and disease free village  by properly collecting all the solid wastes and disposed it to a dumping site,  PHED, Bishnupur in collaboration with Toubul Gram Panchayat and Toubul Welfare Association formed a Solid Waste Committee and started collecting solid waste in Toubul village in Bishnupur district under the supervision of executive engineer, PHED, Bishnupur, L Gokulchandra today.
Solid wastes including tons of plastic waste that were seen piled across the Toubul village were picked up and dumped at a dumping site located at Toubul Mamang on the road side leading to Mayang Imphal.
Speaking to media persons, executive engineer, L Gokulchandra said that strict procedures were followed while dumping the solid waste by segragating biodegradable (non-plastic) and non-biodegradable (plastic) items adding that Toubul village is the second village of Bishnupur district where such programme was implemented but they faced problems to segragate the solid waste 100% due to lack of highly technical and appropriate equipment like work shed. But, he is positive about the outcome of the programme as it will address some the pressing issues of the village.
He further stated that if such programme is taken up across the State and in city with the help of the public then the pollution level will be decreased which will lead to less suffering from diseases.
Besides, PHED, Bishnupur is also planning to develop Solid Waste Management in 10 Gram Panchayat of Bishnupur District this year while each Municipal Council of the district will work closely with PHED, Bishnupur to start implementation of Solid Waste Management in the district, he added.
