Speaking to media persons, Ph Deban Sharma, president AMUCO conveyed that for successful conduction of the event, a joint meeting at the office of UCM yesterday constituted "Observation Committee 18th The Great June Uprising, Unity Day 2019" and nominated members to the Core Committee and Sub-Committee of the observation committee.

The Great June Uprising is observed commemorating the 18 heroes who sacrificed their lives protecting the integrity of the State on June 18, 2001, Deban said.
Manipur has a long history and it has its own territorial boundary. There have been many instances where the integrity and the unity of the people were attacked by external forces and policy of the India Govt. The Great June Uprising, Unity Day is a reminder of the unity people have and it reinforces and reaffirms the stand of the people to protect the State's integrity, Deban said.
As the peace talk between the India Govt and the NSC-IM reached a cease fire pact without territorial limit, the State's integrity was threatened. Brave 18 heroes lost their lives in agitations and many including women were severely injured. Besides the 18 martyrs, The Great June Uprising also commemorates all those men, women and children who fought in 2001, he said.
