Memorial day observed at Maibam Lotpaching

Bishnupur, May 20: Floral tributes and respect were paid to commemorate the first landfall of Japanese Army at Maibam Lotpaching on May 20, 1944 to help India  gain independence from the British rule.
The commemoration function was organized by INA Japanese Reception Association today at India Peace Memorial War Complex, Maibam Lotpaching in Bishnupur district.
The function was attended by president, INA Japanese Reception Association, L Budhachandra Singh; vice-president L Bimol Singh; gen secy K Jiten Singh, ex-office bearers of the association and elders.
Regarding the function, vice-president L Bimol Singh said that the function has been continuously observed since 1948  after India got independence. He said that the main objective of the association is to work for peaceful co-existence.
He further said that the association accorded warm welcome to every tourist including Japanese who have visited the memorial war complex at Maibam Lotpaching which is also known as 'Red Hill' and also educate them about the war complex. The complex also housed important items that were used during Japan war or that belonged to Japanesse army, he added.
