IMPHAL, May 20: The JAC Against Arbitrary Displacement of Naga River Colony 25-A today commemorated the dismantling of 39 houses and three Churches by the State Government on this date in 2013 at Kabo Leikai/Naga River Colony.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today in connection with the commemorative event, JAC co-convenor Banti Golmei said that houses and Churches were dismantled notwithstanding a stay order issued by the High Court of Manipur on May 19, 2013.
In the early hours of May 20, 2013, a large number of paramilitary forces and State police came to the colony and called out all the residents including young children, sick and aged people before dismantling 39 houses and three Churches.
All the residents could not do anything but watch the destruction and weep silently, Banti said.
In the absence of any shelter, all the residents including school going children took refuge in makeshift huts.
All the victims are still enduring all kinds of difficulties, she said.
Since the dwelling houses were dismantled to make room for a luxury hotel without sharing any thought for the poor residents, five victims have expired.
Nonetheless, the JAC has been fighting a case at the Supreme Court so as to ensure that justice is done to all the victims
JAC would continue to observe this heartless event as the day of violation of law by the State every year until justice is delivered, Banti added.
