Five days non residential camp kicks off

IMPHAL, May 20 : The Social Welfare Department kicked off a five day nonresidential camp for children at Manipur Bal Bhavan, Khuman Lampak Sports complex today.
Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) Chairperson Sumatibala Ningthoujam and Social Welfare Director Ngangom Uttam attended the event as chief guest and president respectively.
Speaking at the event, Social Welfare Deputy Director (Children Programme) Konsam Saroja said that welfare initiatives for children is one among other welfare programmes taken up by the department.
Apart from the academic knowledge, the camp was organised with the objective to let children experience and explore other activities by providing them a room for them to enhance and improve their creativity and teaching them their role and responsibilities in the society. Over 100 students between the age of 10 and 15 are expected to participate in the five days camp.
Meanwhile, MCPCR Chairperson Sumatibala Ningthoujam  stressed on the need to include more extra curricular activities and creating a friendly and joyful environment in a student's academic line.
Social Welfare Director Ng Uttam said that the camp also aims to teach the children good discipline and behaviour. The department is planning to organise a residential camp  during the winter season.
