UTBC vows to save Shirui Kashong on green gospel day observation

Ukhrul, May, 20 :  As part of its movement to save the planet from the threat imposed by global warming and climate change, Ukhrul Town Baptist Church (UTBC), Ukhrul has pledged to initiate a campaign "Save Shirui Kashong, Save Tangkhul" during the annual Church event of Green Gospel Day, today.  
Speaking to media persons, UTBC's Pastor, Rev Somi Kasomwoshi spoke about the aims of observing Green Gospel Day.
Rev Somi said that UTBC started observing the day since 2008 at Ukhrul Town Church Phungreitang, Ukhrul.
He also said that the role of Church is not limited only to spiritual and gospel preaching, but has a great social responsibility too.
While deliberating on the theme " Save Shirui Kashong, Save Tangkhul", Rev Somi stated that UTBC would strive and give their best effort to save Shirui mountain region.
According to him, Shirui mountain is indispensable for the people of Ukhrul as it plays major roles and is naturally resource bank for the Tangkhul community.
The Church members also plant tree saplings every year for greener and healthier environment, the Pastor said adding that each year  experts are being invited to sensitise the masses about the bad consequence and ill effect of climate change on the environment.
It can be mentioned that UTBC is relentlessly advocating and campaigning against climate change and its impact on environment for the past many years. As part of the observance, UTBC also organised drawing  and choral competitions for the youth.
