30 year old convicted for raping minor

IMPHAL, May 21: Maibam Manojkumar, Special Judge POCSO Imphal East, convicted one Irungbam Dhanajit under section 6 of POCSO Act for raping a minor girl on March 13, 2017.
The Court also fixed May 23 for the sentence hearing against the convict.
The judgment order was passed by the Court yesterday after it was kept reserved following the final hearing of the case on April 24.
The case began against the convict, Irungbam Dhanajit (30) s/o Tomba of Pundongbam Awang Leikai, after a complaint was filed by the father of the victim before Women PS Imphal East, on March 14, 2017, claiming that on the previous day, at around 7.30 pm, his minor daughter was kidnapped from near their residence by the convict who is a married man having kids
ASI N Memtu Devi of Imphal East Women Police, after completion of the investigation, submitted a charge sheet against the convict for trial on August 17 the same year and the Court framed charges under section 6 and 10 of POCSO Act on January 16 last year.
The prosecution produced 12 prosecution witnesses during the trial and on the other hand, the defense counsel also produced a few witnesses in defense of the convict and the argument hearing began on April 4 the same year.
During the argument hearing, the Court heard the submission of the Special PP M Bishambor and defense counsel (Legal Aid Counsel) Advocate B Supriya.
The Court, after hearing both parties, came to the conclusion that Irungbam Dhanajit had sexual assaulted the minor victim repeatedly and therefore convicted him under section 6 of POCSO Act.
The Court also fixed May 23 for the sentence hearing to announce the quantum of punishment.
