IMPHAL, May 21 : The All Manipur Muslim Students’ Organization (AMMSO) has threatened to launch intense agitations if Manipur University (MU) authorities fail to make necessary changes in the schedule of the university semester examinations as the said exam falls on the eve of the coming Eid-Ul-Fitr.
The students’ union has also urged all the private and Government institutions in the State to refrain from conducting any examination on the eve of Eid-Ul-Fitr.
Addressing a press meet held at Manipur Press Club today, AMMSO president Shah Nawaz claimed that the representatives of the students’ union met the Controller of Examination, MU, on May 15 and submitted a memorandum to the Controller of Examination as well as to the Administrator.
The memorandum demanded necessary changes to avoid conflict between the semester examination conducted by the university and the eve of Eid-Ul-Fitr.
Further pointing out that Eid-Ul-Fitr is a National holiday like Holi or Christmas, the president condemned the MU authority for fixing the examination on the eve of Eid-Ul-Fitr and stated that it amounts to dishonouring the secularism in the country.
Urging the MU authorities to make necessary changes to the date of the semester examination which falls on the eve of Eid-Ul-Fitr immediately, Shah Nawaz also insisted all the private and Government institutions to refrain from conducting examinations or fixing any important event related to the institutions, on the eve of the biggest festival of the Muslim community.
He then demanded the State Government to regularize all the Waqf Board teachers who are technically fit for regularization.
