IMPHAL, May 21
The Manipur State Power Distribution Company Limited (MSPDCL) conveyed that a team of disconnection squad headed by manager of Senpati Sub Division, MSPDCL conducted a raid on illegal/unauthorised electric connections in the Vakho area, New Karong village under Senapati district.
A press release issued by managing director, MSPDCL stated that, during the inspection, about 90 percent of the prepaid customers were found not recharging for more than one year after activation and were using illegal means to consume power.
While performing the duty, localities led by the village chairman resisted to conduct further disconnection of lines on the same day, it added.
The statement further mentioned that on May 15, condemnation notices from three village organizations namely Vakho Khabung Karong village authority, Vakho Women Society and Vakho Youth & Students Organisation were published  in the local daily which is rather unfortunate and misleading.
It can be recalled that under Section 135 (2) of Electricity Act 2003, any officer of the licensee has the right to enter the premises if he has reason to believe that electricity (has been or is being) utilised unauthorised.
It added that MSPDCL has been conducting raids throughout the State as continuous process to improve the power supply and increase the revenue collection, which is  important for purchase of power from all Generating Stations/Power Plants in the North East region. MSPDCL appeals to the public to cooperate with the officials of the company in carrying out raids which would improve the power supply 24*7.
