IMPHAL, May 24: Campaign teams of Imphal West and Imphal East were formed by the Chairman of District Legal Services Authority Imphal West and Imphal East, with the objective of providing legal assistance to the family members of prisoners.
K Dhane, Legal Aid Counsel of Imphal West and Advocate Ch Momon, were appointed as the coordinators of the campaign teams of Imphal West and Imphal East respectively.
The campaign team of Imphal West consists of 22 Para Legal Volunteers and Advocates while the Imphal East campaign team consists of 16 Para Legal Volunteers and Advocates. Speaking during the constitution of the teams, RK Memcha, District and Session Judge Imphal West cum Chairman of District Legal Services Authority Imphal West, stated that when the bread earner of the family is imprisoned for a case, then the whole family members have to suffer the consequences.
Keeping this in mind, the campaign has been launched as per the directives of the National Legal Services Authority to provide legal aid and assistance to the family members and dependants of the prisoners.
She further said that the Para Legal Volunteers of the campaign will interact with inmates and family members to hear about their grievances and provide free legal assistance and other services to the family members through Manipur State Legal Services Authority.
It may be mentioned that MASLSA, on May 14, organized a one day orientation program under the theme "Legal assistance to the family members of the prisoners” at the conference hall of Manipur State Legal Services Authority, ADR Building, Lamphelpat as a part of the Statewide campaign to provide free legal assistance and other services to the family members of prisoners.
