IMPHAL, May 24: The outbreak of Fall Armyworm in the State which did extensive damage to maize plantations has been brought under control, claimed one official of Agriculture Department.
Following massive invasion by Fall Armyworm on maize plants in different parts of the State, the State Government formed surveillance teams which visited the affected areas and provided pesticides to farmers.
The surveillance teams have been engaged in spraying pesticides to affected maize plantations and they have so far covered 750 villages. The State Government put in maximum efforts to contain Fall Armyworm before paddy cultivation starts.
Meanwhile, ICAR has launched investigation to find out if any paddy cultivation has been affected by Fall Armyworm in the State.
Notably, Agriculture Commissioner Sumant Singh earlier appealed to ICAR and CAU scientists to ascertain whether Fall Armyworm attacks paddy too.
