IMPHAL, May 25: CPI candidate in Inner Manipur PC Dr M Nara has stated that the people should judge whether the 17th Lok Sabha election results genuinely reflect people’s verdict or the election results were swayed by money and muscle power.
Speaking to media persons at Irabot Bhavan here today, Dr Nara conveyed gratitude to all the people who supported him in different forms in the Lok Sabha election.
He also conveyed gratitude to the large number of youth who rallied behind him with full enthusiasm for the cause of truth and justice.
He exuded that today’s youth can certainly bring a social change.
Categorically stating that people’s real verdict would not be seen in election results until and unless the existing electoral system is reformed, Dr Nara pledged that he and Left parties would work relentlessly to reform the existing electoral system.
“Mobilizing people’s support and sustaining a strong movement to reform the electoral system would be my first priority”, Dr Nara said.
“Assuming that the election results reflect the people’s genuine verdict, I would like to congratulate NPF’s Dr Lorho S Pfoze and BJP’s Dr RK Ranjan who have been elected to the Lok Sabha from Outer Manipur PC and Inner Manipur PC respectively.
He wished that the two MPs would work in the interest of the people of Manipur.
Dr Nara said that he would leave Imphal for Delhi tomorrow to take part in CPI’s National executive committee meeting which would be held on May 27 and 28 to review the election results.
He also highlighted the need to keep a close watch on policies and programmes of the new Government at the Centre.
CPI State Secretary L Sotinkumar too conveyed gratitude to the people of Manipur for extending full moral support to Dr Nara by giving more than 1.32 lakh votes.
It is a matter of grave concern that BJP has returned to power amidst dubious circumstances through sheer muscle power and money power notwithstanding myriad issues besieging the country, Sotinkumar said.
As declared earlier, the new Government would certainly push the infamous Citizenship Amendment Bill. In such a scenario, CPI will not remain silent but would fight with all its resources against any attempt to get the Bill passed.
CPI would continue its fight against AFSPA too, he added.
