AAU VC visits FGI, Kangpokpi

IMPHAL, May 25: Vice Chancellor of Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat Professor Dr KM Bujarbaruah visited the FEEDS Group of Institutions (FGI), Hengbung in Kangpokpi district Saturday.
He inspected and assessed the functioning of the newly opened College of Biotechnology, College of Community Science and College of Horticulture.
President of Foundation for Environment & Economic Development Services (FEEDS) Haokholal Kipgen, FGI Director Professor HC Bhattacharya, senior scientists and other officials accompanied the Vice Chancellor during the inspection.
During a reception programme, Professor Bujarbaruah exhorted that agriculture is a booming sector which has the potential to boost economic condition of the farmers as well as the State/country.
Earlier people saw agriculture and its allied activities as jobs of low standard and people considered farmers and cultivators engaged in these activities as backward or inferior to others. But, now agriculture and its allied activities are considered best among the many ventures which propel growth and generate huge income, he said.
North-East States have rich bio-resources and maximum efforts should be put into developing horticulture, agriculture and allied sectors in the region, he said.
He is happy that three colleges affiliated to Manipur University are opened, said the VC informing that Assam Agricultural University (AAU) has nine colleges and two additional colleges will be opened for students soon.
AAU will soon have 11 Research Institute, 25 KVKs, one Extension Education Institute and one Agro-economic Research Centre, he said.
The VC assured all possible assistance to FGI for its development and growth and urged it to rigorously train the students and conduct researches which will help the students better grasp the subjects.
