International Year of Periodic Table

IMPHAL, May 25: Department of Physics, Manipur University and Research Institute of Science and Technology (RIST), Imphal observed “International Year of Periodic Table" at the conference hall of Physics Dept, MU today.
During the event, Professor N Rajmuhon Singh, Dean of School of Mathematical and Physical Science, MU spoke on the topic “History behind the discovery of periodic table by Russian scientist, Dmitri Mendeleev” while Professor  Nimai, Head of Physics Dept, MU and Dr Raghumani Singh Ningthoujam,  Fellow of the National Academy of Science, India, FNASc, Babha Atomic Research Centre BARC, Mumbai deliberated on the topics- “How are light and heavy elements formed?”  and “The periodic table of the chemical elements and anomalies in properties” respectively.
Head of Physics Dept, Prof N  Nimai said that IYPT 2019 is observed globally to mark the 150th anniversary of periodic table. 1869 is considered as the year of discovery of the Periodic System by Dmitri Mendeleev. The UN General Assembly, during its 74th Plenary Meeting on December 20, 2017, proclaimed 2019 as the International Year of the Periodic Table of Chemical Elements (IYPT 2019).
