MHRC sends notice

IMPHAL, May 25: Manipur Human Rights Commission has notified the Revenue Department and Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur to submit reports regarding construction of Manipur University of Culture.
The notice was served after one L Bala Devi, secretary Wakha Women's Development Association and N Doren Meitei, secretary Wakha Youth Club filed a complaint to the MHRC alleging that community land is being 'forcefully' acquired by the Government for construction of the Manipur University of Culture, said a statement of the MHRC today.
The complainants alleged violation of Forest Right Act 2006 and violation of Durbar Resolution 10 (a) of 1932 and orders of Forest Settlement Office, GoM, said the MHRC.
The departments have to submit their reports regarding the matter on or before June 11 according to the notice of the MHRC.
