IMPHAL, Jun 15: Not satisfied with the killing of a number of innocent civilians in fake encounters, the Government of India is now working to suppress the people of Manipur through the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the proscribed PREPAK (Pro) alleged.
A statement issued by the outfit’s publicity secretary L Sunil M claimed that the State Government’s overdraft amount of Rs 274 crore is lesser that US Dollar 40 million which is just about a quarter of annual fees paid to famous football players.
By imposing restrictions on financial transactions of the State Government in the name of running into overdraft, RBI has created a sense of financial insecurity among the people of the State but this would immensely benefit non-local business class.
The State’s economy is based on monthly salary which is again circulated in markets. As such, holding up monthly salaries is nothing but economic warfare, it alleged.
The Preamble to the Constitution says that India is a ‘sovereign, socialist, democratic republic’ but the Government of India’s socialist nature is highly questionable given the RBI’s restrictions on the State Government just because of running into an overdraft of a mere Rs 274 crore, the outfit remarked.
Now the leaders of the State Government would go to Delhi and request the Central Government to waive the overdraft amount and get the RBI restrictions lifted with a promise that they would always dance to the tune of New Delhi, the outfit continued.
Capitalising on such promises, Government of India would exploit the State’s natural resources without any opposition apart from imposing all kinds of policies detrimental to the interest of Manipur.
If seen from the context  of Manipur, India has never been a ‘socialist republic’. On the contrary, the Central Government has been treating the State as a captive market.
The Government of India may waive off or pay off the overdraft amount but the dependency syndrome ingrained in the minds of local leaders will never be cured, it said.
It sounds rather hilarious that the State Government has run into overdraft while Assam Rifles and other Indian military forces deployed in the State have huge funds at their disposal to carry out the so called military civic action programmes at different parts of the State, the outfit remarked.
