One bailed out

IMPHAL, Jun 15: Special Court POCSO Imphal East released a 35 year old man, who was accused of sexually assaulting a minor victim,  after he executed necessary bail bond before the Court. The bail order was issued by the High Court of Manipur on June 7.
The accused, identified as Shamurailatpam Tomba (35) s/o of Ibotombi of Yairipok Top Maibam Leikai, had filed a bail application before the High Court of Manipur after his bail was rejected by the Special Court POCSO Imphal East on March 15.
On June 7, after the hearing of the bail application filed before the HC, Justice MV Muralitharan, issued order for releasing Shamurailatpam Tomba on bail upon furnishing a PR bond of Rs 50,000 with two surety of the same amount to the satisfaction of the Special Court POCSO Imphal East.
The High Court also directed Tomba to appear before the Special Court every day until further orders and directed him not to tamper or hamper the witness and documents.
The High Court had also directed him to appear for all hearing of the case before the Court without fail.
Today, the counsel of the accused filed a petition for allowing to furnish the bail amount before the Court and accordingly, after performing the needful, the Court passed an order releasing Tomba.
It may be mentioned that the case began after the mother of the victim (a minor) filed a complaint before Imphal East Women police on January 16, stating that her daughter had been sexually assaulted by the accused on January 11 and she had also claimed that she could not file an immediate complaint due to concerns about her daughter's reputation.
The accused surrendered before the OC Women PS on January 29.
The charge sheet submitted by the IO of the case was received by the Court on March 15 and it accordingly took cognizance of the case under section 6 of POCSO Act.
