TURA, Jun 15: The United Achik Youth Federation (UAYF) has highlighted a list of woes being faced by residents of South West Khasi Hills (SWKH) through a submission to the DC. The organisation sought the immediate intervention of the officer in the matter.
The  organisation   highlighted issues relating to poor electricity supply within the district and sought a rectification of the same at the earliest.
“We have submitted a memo to the concerned Director on July 30 this requesting to provide the electricity, but there is no response. The lack of electricity has affected many offices, schools and students as the supply is irregular,” said president, Sangra Marak.
The  organisation   also highlighted the lack of doctors or nurses in the Khonjoy and Gillagora PHCs for which another application seeking appointment of doctors was also submitted on July 25, 2018, but there has not been any response to that too.
“Due to this, many people living in the bordering areas have to go another country (Bangladesh) for treatment as there is no doctor and nurse in their locality,” added Sangra.
The creation of police outposts was also sought by the  organisation.  .
“We submitted a memo on the creation of 3 police outposts in the area (Khonjoy). This is of extreme importance to the people. However there has been no response,” he stated.
The  organisation   also pointed to the damaged schools in the district which still await government assistance in rebuilding.
“The school buildings were destroyed in the year 2017 and we submitted a memorandum to the director of School Education for funds to help rebuild the schools. Till date there has been no sanction given to these destroyed schools (Govt Aided as well as SSA) and the biggest losers in the process in the students and teachers. The situation needs to be rectified with immediate effect,” stated the memo to the DC by the  organisation .
