Tree plantation

IMPHAL, Jun 18: In a major initiative to minimize the adverse impact of deforestation and climate change in the State, the Forest Department, along with Green Volunteers and locals of Andro, initiated a mass scale tree plantation programme at Langmaiching, Imphal East District today.
Officials of Forest Department conveyed that the programme aims to plant a total number of 10,000 tree saplings.
Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the tree plantation programme, K Momba, Range Officer of Langmaiching Range, informed that the mass scale tree plantation programme was conducted by the Forest Department in collaboration with Green Volunteers and locals of Andro and added that the initiative was taken up under the aegis of Forest and Environment Minister, Th Shyamkumar.
A total of 10,000 tree saplings will be planted during the mass scale tree plantation programme, the official added.
Saying that the adverse impact of deforestation and climate change has been escalating rapidly in the State since the past one or two decades, the Range Officer went on to observe that it is time for the State to immediately stop deforestation and instead grow trees on a mass scale.
Lauding the members of Green Volunteers and locals of Andro for actively involving in the mass scale tree plantation programme, Momba also noted that conservation of forest and protection of environment cannot be done without the support of the public.
He then urged all the CSOs and the public to share a common responsibility towards protecting the environment.
Apart from the officials and staff of Langmaiching Forest Range Office, around 50 volunteers of Green volunteers and many locals of Andro, also being participated in the programme.
