Silver medallist S Yaiphaba accorded warm welcome

BISHNUPUR, Jun 30 : Soibam Yaiphaba who clinched a silver medal for India at the 69th Sub Junior and Youth International Invitation Boxing Championship organised by Hungary Boxing Association at Eger, Hungary from June 11 to 15, was accorded a warm welcome at Yangoiningthou Community Hall in Khoijuman in Bishnupur district today.
The reception programme organised by Khoijuman Apunba Meira Paibi Lup was attended by Thiyam Dilip Singh, Member Nachou Zilla Parishad; Thoudam Ahanbi Devi, Pradhan Khoijuman Kwasiphai GP; Ngangom Tomna Singh, Up Pradhan; S Angoubi Devi, president Khoijuman Apunba Meira Paibi Lup and coaches Kh Mocha and Th Jiten as dignitaries.
Soibam Yaiphaba, son of S Robito Singh of Khoijuman Ward No 3, settled for the silver medal  in the junior 46 kg event at the championship after the final bout ended 3-2 (split decision) in favour of his American opponent.
The boxer who was also presented simple gifts for his achievement by the organising committee during the reception programme, shared his experience and thoughts during the championship. He contended that he toiled hard for the gold during the course of the competition but the speed and agility of his rival proved fatal and forced him to settle for the silver metal in the competition which saw participation of 10 boxers from different countries.
Yaiphapa also credited his coaches and family members for his current status and promise to work more in the future to make country and the State proud all level possible. He also expressed gratitute to the meira paibi organisations, local clubs for immense support and appreciation showered on him.
