IMPHAL, Jul 10 : Student union of Bengoon Higher Secondary School Mayang Imphal has demanded the State Government to provide the required number of teachers at the school as most of the teachers have been transferred and has eventually started affecting the academic process of the students.
The students union has warned to take up different modes of agitation if the State Government fails to fill the vacant seats of teachers in the school.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, general secretary of the student union Md Sabir maintained that the Education Minister had personally upgraded the school from a high school to a higher secondary school and event deputed 22 teachers to the school.
However, most of the designated teachers were transferred away to other institutions from the school, Md Sabir added.
Now, as a result of insufficient number of teachers, the students still do not have teachers for some of the major subjects.
With the help of the Principal of the school and the School Committee, an SSA teacher was utilised to teach Chemistry at the school, he added.
Unfortunately, as per an order issued on July 5, the said Chemistry teacher was then utilised at another school after teaching at Bengoon Higher Secondary School for five months.
Seeking immediate attention of the State Government, he warned that the student union with the help of other organisations and clubs will launch different forms of agitations if the issued order is not revoked or necessary teachers for required subjects are not provided at the earliest before July 15.
The general secretary of the student union questioned how Government schools in the State will progress if the basic necessity and requirement of a school is not fulfilled.
He appealed the authority concerned to extend help in keeping the only higher secondary school of Bengoon village functional.
On the other hand, the authorities concerned of the school have repeatedly urged the Education Minister, Education Director, local MLA (who is also the Dy Speaker) to look into the matter but no positive response was given.
There are 430 students in the school at present while the pass percentage of last year for class X is 98 percent and that of class XII is 80 percent, he informed.
