15th Governor's Taekwondo Cup: UTA bounce back on Day 3 to spice up title race

IMPHAL, Jul 9 : UTA enjoyed a sweep of 6 gold, 8 silver and  8 bronze medals on Day 3 of the 15th Governor's Taekwondo Cup but fell short by 1 gold medal to take the lead past National Sports Academy who are on top of the tally with 15 gold, 11 silver and 12 bronze medals.
The third day of the tournament saw UTA's Tejshri Paonam (Sub-Jr Girls : U-20 Kg), Laisom Alevia Devi (Sub-Jr Girls U-29 Kg), Priyadarshini (Cadet Girls U-44 kg), Priyanka Leitanthem (Jr girls U-63 kg), P Bope (Senior Men U-63 kg) and S Salaingakpi Chanu (Senior Women U-53 kg) clinch gold medals to make it a total of 14 gold medals while Nungaikhomba P (Sub-Jr Boys' U23 Kg), Usham Gunapati (Junior Girls U-46 kg), M Sanahal (Senior Men's U-63 kg), Ranbir Moirangthem (Senior Men's U-74 kg), Th Inaobi Devi (Senior Women's U-53 Kg), Babina Gurumayum (Senior Women's U-62 kg), Kh Johnson (Junior Boys U-73 kg) and Hemananda N (Cadet Boys' U-65 kg) grabbed silver medals to make it total of 20 silver medals.
The 11 players who claimed the bronze medals for the same unit are Kh Tomthinnganbi (Sub-Jr Girls U-32 kg), Henjathoini Rajkumari (Sub-Jr Girls U-35 kg), Kh Poireingakpa (Cadet Boys U-65 kg), M Henthoibi Chanu (Cadet Girls' U-37 kg), N Rosy Chanu (Cadet Girls U-44 kg), Lingjensana Chanu Ningthemcha (Cadet Girls' U-55 kg), Th Angamba (Jr Boys' U-51 kg), O Anjali Devi (Junior Girls' U-46 kg), Duke Rajkumari (Sub-Jr Girls' U-23 kg), Yohenbi Rajkumari (Sub-Jr Girls' U-20 kg) and Valentina Yumnam (sub-Jr Girls' U-29 kg).
The day also saw NSA bag 2 gold, 6 silver and 8 bronze medals to keep their lead intact. Sapam Nancy (Jr Girls' U-46 kg) and S Rohit Singh (Junior Boys' U-51 kg) excelled against their respective rivals to earn the gold medals while L Lucky Chanu (Cadet Girls' U-55 kg), Jebiom Evansky (Jr Boys' U-51 kg), Gharluxmi Ph (Sub-Jr Girls' U-35 kg), I Sachin (Cadet Boys' U-41 kg), L Bidyasagar (Cadet Boys' U-61 kg) and N Sania Devi (Cadet girls' U-37 kg). The athletes who were able to fetch bronze medals for the unit include, Th Joychandra (Junior Boys U-59 kg), L Ranson Meitei (Cadet Boys' U-41 kg), P Sangba and B Shitaljit (Cadet Boys' U-61 kg), Rupsa Karmakar (Cadet Girls' U-37 kg), Nitish Waribam (Sub-Jr Boys' U-35 kg), K Thanil Ningthouja (Sub-Jr Boys U-38 kg) and K Ambika (Sub-Jr Girls U-29 Kg).
SAIRC also won 5 gold and 4 bronze medals at the end of third day to remain at the third place with 12 gold, 6 silver and 15 bronze medals.
