AMMSO demands minority hostel in Greater Imphal

All Manipur Muslim Student Organisation (AMMSO) carried out an inspection drive at MOBC Boys Hostel in DM College campus today and expressed suspicion that some teachers have failed to follow the selection procedure of hostellers for the hostel for  2019-20 session.
AMMSO president Javed Ahmed said that when the student organisation along with Pangal Student Union Dhanamanjuri University conducted an inspection to find out whether the process of selecting hostellers for MOBC Boys Hostel, located behind DM College of Commerce, follows the procedure on merit and distance.
There is a great apprehension that some teachers allegedly selected the hostellers based on their own will by neglecting necessary protocol, said the president citing it as unfortunate.
He went on to maintain that the hostel was found to be in an unhygienic state with lack of insufficient infrastructures/accessories.
Javed Ahmed urged the authority concerned to clarify the real owner of MOBC Boys Hostel.
On the other hand, when AMMSO enquired about the matter to the superintendent of the hostel yesterday, the superintendent responded that the Principal of DM College of Commerce had allegedly issued a notification directing the selection of only BCom and BBA students and further replied that the superintendent has no power on the matter.
Maintaining that the total seat/bed allocation is 46, Javed conveyed that the recently issued selected list of hostellers will not be valid anymore. He further alleged that neglecting students belonging to Pangal community and choosing students based on the interest of some teachers is rather unfortunate and discriminatory.
Demanding the authority concerned to set up of a minority boys hostel in Greater Imphal, he warned that AMMSO along with Pangal Student Union and public will revolt if the demand is not meted at the earliest.
On the other hand, while hearing the story of hostellers staying in MOBC Boys Hostel, ex-monitor of the hostel Hawaibam Thoithoi maintained that AMMSO did not give any prior information about the inspection or about shutting down the hostel today.
He said that it is disheartening to see the student organisation coming to shut down the hostel where many are staying and considers the hostel as their second home.
He went on to state that, when he was monitoring the hostel before, grievances were addressed to the authority concerned to renovate the wiring of the hostel but no positive response were given.
Thoithoi urged the authority concerned to repair the hostel and fix the insufficiencies visible at the hostel.
Notably, a minor scuffle occurred between the hostellers and members of the students organisations as AMMSO tried to shut the hostel while the students were still inside the hostel. Later in the day, AMMSO refrained from shutting down the hostel as both the parties sat and talked on the matter.
