Leirongthel Ningel GP plants trees

ThoubaI, Jul 10: Leirongthel Ningel Gram Panchayat with Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Committee (WBCC) Manipur jointly organised a tree plantation drive at Kakmayai Panthoibi Laikol under  Leirongthel Ningel GP, Thoubal district today.
Leirongthel Ningel Gram Panchayat Pradhan S Itobi Leima, Pradhan Nominee S Kumar Meitei, Up-pradhan N Jogen, Ward Member Ichan Devi, WBCC secretary general Ningthoujam Romes and others attended the event.
Speaking at the event, S Kumar said that the programme was taken up to contribute to the worldwide effort of protecting environment and counter global warming.
He pointed out the various adverse effects of deforestation and urged locals to plant more trees to mitigate climate change.
He also urged all 161 Gram Panchayats in Manipur to join the campaign and plant trees at their respective areas.
Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Committee (WBCC) Manipur  secretary general Ningthoujam Romes also appealed all to save environment and protect wildlife.
Series of tree plantation drives are being conducted following the Van Mahotsav week - July 1 to 7 in the State by many organisations and Government departments.
