Six Child Friendly Stations opened at six police stations in Thoubal

Thoubal, Jul 10: Six Child Friendly Police Stations were opened at six police stations in Thoubal district today.
The Child Friendly Police Stations were opened at Thoubal Police Station, Lilong PS, Yairipok PS, Nongpok Sekmai PS, Heirok PS and Khongjom PS.
Speaking at the launch of the Child Friendly PS at Thoubal PS, SP Dr S Ibomcha said that the PSs will handle cases related to children. The stations will create friendly and conducive environment for children.
It may be mentioned that the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) had recommended establishment of Child Friendly Police Stations to better protect children.
It had recommended that the child friendly corner/room should be distinguished from other parts of the police station by means of colourful posters and separately maintained furniture so as to make the child feel as comfortable as possible.
Dr S Ibomcha said that the stations are designed to root out fear of police among the children. Such establishments will also motivate children to better co-operate with police when they grow up, he said.
Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MCPCR) Chairperson Sumatibala Ningthoujam who also attended the event said that the Child Friendly Police Stations will enhance police in handling cases involving children. Members of MCPCR and many other police officers attended the event.
