Bust up of KNF (MC) camps detailed

IMPHAL, Jul 13 : Detailing Operations Thangjing launched by 25 Assam Rifles to rescue abducted chief of Dampi village on July 5, the Commander of the 27 Sector of Assam Rifles today claimed that two camps of the KNF (MC) were busted and one cadre of the said outfit was arrested.
Addressing the media, the Commander said that Lunkholal Lhungdim (41), chief of Dampi village was abducted by unidentified persons on July 5 and taken to Thangjing hills.
When news of the abduction spread, the Commander said that 25 Assam Rifles and Churachandpur police launched a well co-ordinated search operation immediately.
As the columns of the security personnel closed in on the target area from all sides, the militants abandoned their SUVs and fled into the jungles on motor cycles, said the Commander and added that on July 6, the abducted village chief was released by the abductors.
On being released, the village chief moved towards the soldiers who were deployed for the operation.
After arranging the evacuation of the chief to Churachandpur, the Commander said that troops immediately carried out relentless search in the area in the attempts to zero down on the armed cadres.
For the next three days, despite the inclement weather the search operations continued and the cornered cadres fled their camp abandoning their weapons, claimed the Commander and added that on July 9, the troops managed to seize five assault rifles and other war like stores.
The search continued for the next 48 hours and this led to the arrest of one cadre of the KNF (MC) identified as Neihmiya which led to the recovery of two assault rifles, two 12 bore guns and four radio sets.
Other arms recovered included one AK-56 rifle, three MA3 rifles, one M 4AI carbine, one HK.33 rifle.
The Commander also noted the assistance and role of Churachandpur police in busting the camps.
