60th State Subroto Mukerjee Football Tourney: Unique Model School fetch U-14 boys' title, Springfield School emerge U-17 champions

IMPHAL, Jul 13 : Unique Model School, Imphal East emerged U-14 boys champions while Springfield School, Thoubal claimed the U-17 boys title at the 60th State Level Subroto Mukerjee Football Tournament 2019 organised by Department of Youth Affairs and Sports at Khuman Lampak Sports Complex. Both the teams which beat their respective rivals 5-4 via sudden death and penalty shoot-out, will be representing Manipur at the 60th Subroto Mukerjee International Football Tournament 2019 to be held at New Delhi.
The U-14 boys final match played between TG English School, Bishnupur and Unique Model School, Imphal East was a keenly contested match but the normal time was not enough for the two sides to settle the winners as neither side managed to score despite multiple chances on both ends.
And as per the tournament conduct rule, the game was stretched to penalty shoot-out wherein S Anaroy and L Henthoiba found the net for the Imphal East side and Kamei Langdalung and Th Sanathoi scored for the TG English School to make it 2-2. Sudden death was then called in to decide the winners as the two sides failed to find the difference even after the shoot-out and it was Imphal East's Preet, Y Monish and Y Mahesh who gave their team the edge after only W Banerjee and Th Robertson managed to slot home the ball for the Bishnupur team.
Meanwhile in the U-17 final, Springfield School, Thoubal and Ukhrul Public School, Ukhrul played out a 1-1 draw during normal time before the former find the upperhand in the penalty shoot-out.
It was a neck to neck contest right from the beginning but N Ajitkumar found the breakthrough in the 21st minute and earned Springfield School the slender lead for next twenty minutes as the scored was levelled in the 41st minute by Awungshi of the Ukhrul team. The game was then dragged to penalty shoot-out as the two sides failed to find the difference during the normal time. In the shoot-out, H Shital, Kh Arun, Th Premjit and G Nanao Kabui find the net to give Springfield School the U-17 title after Ukhrul Public School could add only 3 more goals through Panel Shalsang, L Chehansa and Chihanfang Awungshi.
Winners of the two categories, Unique Model School, Imphal East and Springfield School, Thoubal were feted with Rs 50,000 each along with trophies in the presence of Armstrong Pamei, Director YAS and P Renedy Singh, former Indian football captain as dignitaries while the runners up awarded Rs 25,000 along with trophies.
