Five days long observation of 3rd Nupi Moirang Parva festival kick starts

IMPHAL, Jul 15 : Ching Tam United Women's Association kick started a five-day long observation of 3rd Nupi Moirang Parva Festival at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound today.
Speaking at the function, titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba said that the State is filled with different forms of art and added that the State's very own art and culture runs through the veins of a person born here.
Maintaining that Moirang Parva is a dying art form of Manipur, he urged all to be pro-active in preserving and promoting all vulnerable and dying art forms before its too late.
He said, all Shumang Kumheis are derived or inspired from Moirang Parva and added that such festivals provide the only opportunity to showcase the said art which is unfortunate.
The costume for Moirang Parva is quite different from other art forms, Leishemba said while cautioning all not to break such age old norms and traditions.
He went on to state that the State Government and public have different roles to play in taking this art forward and added that both the parties need to come together to make it work.
Conveying that foreigners often yearn to watch such age old art form when they visit the State and the different art forms of the State will live on if the State Government also initiate necessary measures to make the tourists, VIPs and delegates see all the art forms.
Maintaining that Lai Haraoba is celebrated across the State every year for two to three months, he opined that artists of such art forms will survive if Nupi Shumang Leela or Moirang Parva is included in the celebration of Lai Haraoba.
He stated that womenfolk and different Lups should come together so that Moirang Parva is included when Lai Haraoba is celebrated at each locality.
Kangla Yaipung, a play of Meitei Leimarol Art Performing Centre Wangkhei was shown at the event.
The festival is organised by nine different organisations.
Titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba, Director Art & Culture, GoM A Shivadas Sharma and Chairman Film Forum Manipur  S Mangoljao attended the function as the chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
